How we help the people helping small businesses across the UK
Building the YTKO Marketplace.
A Website Success Story
At Cash Cow Marketing, we always try to design and develop websites that don’t just meet our clients’ expectations, but way surpass them. So, when YTKO approached us to create a brand-new business directory website, we instantly recognised this was a golden opportunity to deliver something exceptional.
So in this post we’re going to quickly share the story behind building the YTKO Marketplace website, a project that is already helping businesses in Suffolk and Hampshire and is set to expand across the UK in 2025.
Understanding YTKO’s Vision
YTKO is a well-established organisation with a passion for empowering small businesses. Their idea for the YTKO Marketplace was simple yet ambitious: to create an SEO-optimised national directory website for small business owners to connect and do business with each other. The goal was to create a platform that would act as a hub for entrepreneurs to connect, promote their offerings and grow their visibility in an increasingly competitive – and corporate – landscape.
When YTKO came to us, they were clear about what they needed in a web development partner.
They were looking for:
Reliability: A team they could count on to deliver on time and within budget.
Speed and Agility: A platform that could be built quickly without sacrificing quality.
Scalability: The capacity to scale the website as it grows, pivot as necessary and accommodate businesses across the entire UK.
Brand Extension: A website that closely reflected existing branding.
Ongoing Support: A partner to help manage, optimise and expand the platform as needed on a medium to long term basis.
Suffice to say, we were thrilled to step up to the plate and bring this vision to life.
The Challenge
Creating a business directory is no small feat. Such websites need to be exceptionally user-friendly for business owners to create profiles and seamless for users searching for the services on offer. Volume was a major consideration, so the site also had to have the capacity to handle significant future growth. YTKO were clear that while the project would begin with pilot areas in Suffolk and Hampshire, the ultimate goal was nationwide expansion.
Additionally, the project required a fast turnaround. YTKO didn’t just want to build a directory; they wanted to launch it before the end of 2024, to provide immediate value to businesses in the trial areas.
Our Solution
As always with larger web design projects, our approach was to break the project into manageable bitesize chunks to accommodate the busy schedules of the YTKO team, maximise efficiency and allow feedback at every stage. This also gave us the space to focus on creating a high-quality product for the initial areas while laying a solid foundation for future expansion.
1. Building a User-Centric Platform
Our work began with the end user in mind.
The YTKO Marketplace needed to be intuitive and visually appealing while maintaining robust functionality.
So our team focused on creating:
Simple navigation and sign up process: Ensuring users could easily search for and find businesses as well as being able to quickly add their own company to the directory.
A mobile-friendly design: Like it or not, most people are looking at websites via their smartphones these days. So whatever we built had to look good on smaller screens, no mean ask considering the sheer volume of content needed on each page.
Customisation options: Allowing businesses to showcase their unique offerings with personalised profiles was a big part of the brief.
2. Building Fast and Agile
As usual, we utilised an agile development framework for the build, which is an elaborate way of saying we broke the work down into manageable chunks, to ensure consistent progress, maximum potential for feedback and rapid iteration. This approach consistently allows us to deliver fully functional websites within tight timeframes and budgets. In this case it also gave us the flexibility to incorporate YTKO’s feedback throughout the process.
3. Ensuring Scalability
The site’s architecture was designed with scalability in mind. While the initial launch focused on Suffolk and Hampshire, the backend infrastructure can effortlessly handle the addition of all counties in the UK and hundreds of thousands of business listings. As with all the sites we build, baking in a strong SEO element to our web design ensured the best possible chance of high rankings and plenty of organic traffic.
4. Providing Ongoing Support
Our partnership didn’t end with the website launch. We’re strong believers in building relationships, not just websites, SEO projects or marketing campaigns. We’re genuinely committed to providing ongoing support, from performance monitoring to feature enhancements, ensuring the YTKO Marketplace continues to thrive for many years to come.

Launching the YTKO Marketplace
Phase 1 of the project has seen the successful launch of ytkomarketplace.co.uk, covering Suffolk and Hampshire. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Dozens of business owners already signed up and built profiles. Some have even praised the platform’s ease of use, while general feedback from users searching the directory has been equally encouraging.
Of course, we could never claim the praise for ourselves, but we would definitely say that any early success is in large part the result of our collaborative approach and the valuable feedback provided by both the YTKO team and website users.
From the initial brainstorming sessions to the final implementation, we worked closely together with YTKO to ensure every detail aligned with their branding and vision.
What’s Next?
With the pilot phase complete, the YTKO Marketplace is gearing up for its next big step: a nationwide rollout. In 2025, the directory will expand to include more counties within the YTKO framework, across the UK, making it a truly national resource for small business owners and their clients.
Our web design team couldn’t be prouder of the role they’ve played in bringing this platform to life. The YTKO Marketplace embodies what Cash Cow Marketing is all about – creating digital solutions that drive real-world success for small and medium-sized businesses.
